It’s between the best diving locations of the island of Ponza, it’s a group of reefs strung out like ants that go down to a sandy bottom up to reach 54 m. Accessible to divers of all levels, choice of multiple dives, all characterized by different environments that welcome rich biotic communities in many colors.
The site is located at the bottom of Punta Papa on the N coast of the island at about 20 m of depth. The wreck “Landing Ship Tank”, sunk in 1943 after a violent storm.
The dive to the Punta Papa wreck is surely among the most beautiful island of Ponza. The bottom is sandy, the water is shallow and clear, very interesting play of light present between the holes of the main deck, this dive is particulary suitable for the production of video and truly surreal picture.
The stacks are named after the protagonist of a real tragedy of the nineteenth century. Lucia Rosa was a nineteen years old woman, in love with a poor farmer, but her family prevented her to marry him: the girl, depressed, committed suicide by jumping from high cliffs, which was successively named in her honour by the local inhabitants. In the immediate vicinity there is a beach, precisely denominated Santa Lucia, sandy coastline accessible only by sea like the stacks.
